Extracting wisdom teeth (third molars) is an increasingly prevalent dental procedure worldwide. Wisdom teeth typically emerge between late teens and early twenties and tend to cause misalignments and complications due to limited space available within the mouth.
Forest Dental Care’s team will assess whether extracting wisdom teeth is necessary and provide any needed X-rays or take necessary x-rays if required. If wisdom tooth pain persists, our dentist may suggest extraction.
When Should Wisdom Teeth Removal Occur?
If impacted wisdom teeth do not cause any complications, removal typically is unnecessary; however, in certain instances where impacting may create issues for dental health such as:
Tooth decay, gum disease (gingivitis or periodontal disease), pericoronitis (infection of surrounding soft tissue), cellulitis infection in cheek, tongue or throat and abcesses/cysts or benign growths may all pose risks of tooth loss and needless suffering if unchecked and left untreated for too long a time period – and could also potentially form cysts/benign growths/ cysts (occasionally unerupted teeth may experience fluid-filled swellings) need be monitored closely in order to detect potential risks posed to oral health issues by medical practitioners who should understand risks when visiting dental offices/or attending dentist offices/or using products/services that contain fluorinated chemicals/petroleames/etc (for instance pericoronitis infection infactors/etc) can increase over time or not addressed sufficiently
At Forest Dental Care, wisdom teeth removal should only be recommended when other methods have proven ineffective.
Forest Dental Care’s wisdom tooth extraction procedure offers quick and efficient results.
Forest Dental Care will either perform the extraction themselves, or refer you to a specialist oral surgeon if needed. Prior to each step being undertaken, an explanation will be provided and you may need to sign a consent form prior to commencing with treatment.
After administering local anesthetic to numb the area, a dentist or oral surgeon may make an incision in the gum to facilitate extraction, potentially splitting teeth into segments for easier extraction if required. This procedure could last from several minutes up to twenty or more.
Recovery and Possible Complications of Implant Surgery
Subsequent to extraction, swelling and discomfort inside and outside the mouth are often experienced post-extraction. Bruising may also develop, with peak symptoms appearing within three days but lasting as much as two weeks post extraction.
Wisdom tooth extraction carries some risks, including infection, delayed healing and dry socket formation. Adherence to postoperative instructions provided by your dentist will help minimize risks of complications after wisdom teeth extraction surgery.
There is also the risk of nerve damage, leading to temporary numbness or tingling sensations in the tongue, lower lip, chin, teeth and gums – although in rare instances this may become permanent.
